Students choose from elective courses in Drawing + Painting, Photography, Architecture and Art History


Design + Build

A hands on architecture course, Design + Build involves major restoration and landscaping projects in the Les Tapies hamlet. Students are introduced to the vernacular architecture of Les Tapies and the restoration process as they develop a variety of skills vital to construction projects. 

PHOTOGRAPHY

The Photography Elective introduces students to working with 35mm black and white film photography. Students learn a range of technical processes required for working in the darkroom and develop a strong understanding of camera functions. 

drawing + painting

Drawing and painting students are introduced to a wide range of media and technical processes. A key component of the elective course is working within the spectacular landscape at Les Tapies. The course also focuses on building technical abilities and working from direct observation. 

art history

In the Art History minor, students will gain a brief introduction into the History of Western Art to begin expanding their foundational knowledge as artists. Through discussion, reflection, and drawing, the course aims to develop critical skills for examining visual phenomena.  The course is supplement by museum visits in Avignon and Aix-en-Provence.
